In 2018, an all-women team including two Omanis embarked on the grueling 800 km walk through Oman’s most formidable landscape, Rub al Khali, the Empty Quarter. Britain’s Janey McGill, along with Atheer al Sabri and Baida al Zadjali dropped everything to walk across the Empty Quarter in Oman, to become the first modern women to cross this vast stretch of barren wilderness.
With a male British and Omani crew in support, the women walked 758 km, the equivalent distance of London to Switzerland over 28 days with a clear objective: To challenge prejudices and breakdown stereotypes, and to deliver a message to the world that we are “better together” regardless of culture, gender or identity differences.
Accomplished American film director and cinematographer Matthew Millan of 180 Films was flown in at very short notice to accompany the entire expedition.
This grand journey through the land of dreams forced the three women to dig into the deepest recesses of their resolve to face not only the most hostile of environments, but also the spectre’s that haunted their pasts.
Arrowhead features unbelievable cinematic scenes filmed deep inside the Empty Quarter together with up-to-date interviews with the three women.
