Khazaen Economic City signed an investment agreement with Al Awael Smart Building LLC to build a smart bricks factory in Khazaen. The agreement was signed by Fares al Khaldi of Al Awael Smart Building LLC and Eng Salim al Thuhli, CEO of Khazaen Economic City.

The factory, with an investment value of RO 1.50 million is to be built on 10,000 square metres in Khazaen.

Al Awael Smart Building LLC is a company that specialises in manufacturing bricks, interlocking and fully advanced concrete products. In a presentation, Al Khaldi said that smart bricks are not ordinary invention as its advantages lie in the materials, method of installation, without the need of a cement mortar and specialised masons or finishers.

Smart bricks, aside from being made of ordinary sand, gravel and cement, also contain insulating rocks which are fire resistant and act as heat insulators; fibreglass which is a light material but stronger than steel and does not burn, stretch, rust or fade; and reinforcing materials like sand extracted from finest stones.

Al Khaldi said that smart bricks are 60 per cent lighter than conventional bricks thus reducing the cost of manpower. This also allows for faster construction and ease of handling and one can make four times faster than traditional bricks. Also, smart bricks are eco-friendly as no materials are wasted with the making of the bricks. Finally, Al Khaldi said that all the materials for the making of smart bricks are sourced locally thus helping the local industries as well.
