Muscat: The Ministry of Health put stress on raising awareness for organ donation and human tissue under National Organ Transplantation Programme.
A workshop involving health educators threw light on cultivating organ donation culture in society to save the lives of patients suffering from certain diseases.
The Health Education and Programme Department of the Ministry of Health (MoH), in cooperation with the National Organ Transplantation Programme, organised the workshop recently.
The workshop aimed to train health educators on organ donation culture, tell people about donation phases, and encourage individuals to donate organs as a mark of social responsibility derived from the perspective of Islamic law. It called the health educators to convince patients about the benefits and organ donation procedures.
The workshop explained to the participants the different stages of organ donation and the fact that the donor can be any healthy or even a brain-dead person.
“In some cases, donors are the only hope for saving patients’ lives. Organ donation can be performed on all ages, as the health of the organs is more important than age,” experts explained.
The donor’s age should not be below 18 years. He should be physically healthy and psychologically stable. If the donor is brain-dead, the physicians determine whether the organs are suitable for transplantation.
