As part of its ongoing efforts to support community development and invest in the potential of future generations in relation to innovation and entrepreneurship, Bank Muscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, organized the 3rd edition of its Educational Camp – Ideathon Competition dedicated for the children of the Bank’s employees aged between 12 and 15. This year’s edition witnessed a remarkable participations of over 40 children from various governorates across the country, in an atmosphere full of energy, interaction, and healthy competition.

The initiative sought to instill creativity, entrepreneurship, and giving back to community in children through a series of interactive educational activities focused on enhancing their ability to develop innovative business ideas professionally and boards to advertise their businesses.

The Educational Camp also reflects Bank Muscat’s belief in the importance of instilling a culture of innovation and spirit of initiative in participants. Itprovided a stimulating educational environment that helped participants discover their talents, work in teams to develop their ideas, and turn them into prototypes of feasible projects. This camp stands as a successful example of community partnership between the Bank and society. On an educational level, the camp offered participants the opportunity to learn in an interactive setting, which supported the development of critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. On a communal level, it promotes values of collaboration, citizenship and respect for diversity among the participants. Bank Muscat continues its leading role in supporting initiatives that contribute to building a generation that is knowledgeable, innovative, and capable of actively contributing to the future of the national economy.

Several participants expressed their excitement about the experience and the knowledge they gained during the event. Ismail Ibrahim Al Balushi, aged 14, said:“Taking part in the educational camp was a valuable opportunity to develop my planning and innovationskills while working on our project idea. It helped me become more independent and shape a clear vision for my future. I look forward to participating in more of the Bank’s similar events.” Maryam Faisal Al Balushi, who is 12 years old, voiced her opinion about participation, saying: “The camp was a wonderful experience. I learned how to use my imagination to develop ideas that benefit society. I now feel confident in my ability to turn a concept into a successful, innovative business. This experience has fueled my ambition to be part of a positive change in the future and make a real difference in the community.”

Eelaf Rashid Al Adwani is a 14-year old participant who reflected on the value of teamwork and cultural exchange. She stated: “The camp allowed me to meet new friends from different backgrounds, which helped me build teamwork skills and learn how to listen to others’ ideas while sharing my own inspiring thoughts.” Likewise, her brother, Ali Rashid Al Adwani, aged 12, commented: “The challenge of developing a business idea was both enjoyable and demanding. I felt that many of the participants’ ideas were meaningful and could genuinely benefit society. This motivated me to further develop my creative and innovative abilities so I can overcome challenges and bring my future plans and projects to life.”

This Educational Camp event falls under Bank Muscat’s CSR-focused initiatives launched to benefit various segments of the community. Amongst these initiatives comes the financial-literacy-focused “Maliyat” programme, which aims to elevate the financial literacy of the young generations and provides them with essential skills for managing financial matters and making informed spending choices from an early age. In light of current economic fluctuations, financial awareness is crucial for fostering financial stability among individuals and families. Over 70,000 students across various governorates in the Sultanate have benefited from the programme so far.
