Muscat: A new method of cyber fraud, where the perpetrators are able to use the OTP verification code that customers receive by text message, has been detected and police are warning users to stay cautious.
The General Department of Criminal Investigation and Investigation of the Royal Oman Police said, ”A new style of fraud where scammers contact victims and deceive them that they have won a prize from a popular commercial centre and that they require an OTP sent to the victims number to activate the prize. Once shared, this OTP is used to purchase items online.”
“Therefore, it calls on people not to respond to such calls and to maintain the safety of their accounts,” ROP added.
