Muscat: The Council of Arab Ministers for Communications and Information announced that Muscat will be the Arab Digital Capital for 2022.
Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, told the Oman News Agency that Muscat’s victory as the Arab Digital Capital for the year 2022 reflects the confidence of Arab countries in the digital and legislative capabilities of the Sultanate of Oman enjoys in the ICT sector.
Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat said this victory will enhance the efforts made in the field of digital transformation and keep pace with the aspirations of “Oman Vision 2040” aimed at creating smart and integrated technical systems.
The “Arab Digital Capital” is a city belonging to one of the Arab countries that will be selected annually to exhibit and embrace various successful initiatives and models in the field of digital uses and the digital economy. The selected city has to launch many local and regional initiatives.
A series of events are to be organized to highlight the role of the city in particular and the state in general in adopting communications and information technology to enhance the economic, social, health, and education environment, etc. … and increase the well-being of the society and emphasize its readiness to be one of the leading countries at the Arab and international level under the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
