More than 2,000 COVID cases detected over three days in Oman

Muscat: Oman recorded more than 2,000 new infections of COVID-19 between Thursday, 13 January, and Saturday, 15 January. During this period, three more people also died from the disease.

Of the 2,087 new infections, 755 people tested positive on Thursday, 605 people on Friday, and the remaining 727 on Saturday. 720 people also successfully recovered from COVID-19 during this timeframe, bringing the net recovery rate to 96.7 percent.

Since the start of the pandemic in Oman, 312,425 people have tested positive for COVID-19, of whom 302,178 have recovered. Sadly, 4,122 people have succumbed to the disease.

There are currently 88 people in health centres, of whom 25 were admitted in the last 24 hours leading up to Sunday, 16 January, and 11 are in intensive care.

The Ministry of Health has reminded people to continue to follow all protocols related to the stopping of COVID-19.
“With our commitment to wearing masks and maintaining social and physical distancing, we will prevent ourselves, our families, and our community from the spread of the coronavirus,” said the ministry in its daily briefing.

People are also advised to complete their vaccination courses as soon as they are able. Those who can are also requested to get their booster doses.

Both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccine are currently available for those who wish to get the booster shots. In the case of the latter vaccine, only those who have been previously jabbed with the AstraZeneca vaccine can apply for a booster dose of the same vaccine.
