BARKA, MARCH 16 –
The Oman Camel Racing Federation concluded the OCRF Sword festival for season 2022 on Wednesday at the Royal Camel Corps Track in Barka under the auspices of HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth in presence of top dignitaries and officials.
On the last day, there were four rounds for 8 km. The first round was for ‘Thanaya’ category, five years old, allocated for enterprises, saw 13 participants in action for the top prize of SUV car and the icon.
The second round for ‘Thanaya’ category, five years old (general), 22 participants were in action for icon and SUV car. The third round was for ‘Alhool’ category, above five years old (general), saw 18 camels compete for silver sword and SUV car. The last round was for ‘Alhool’ category, above five years old for enterprises saw 24 camels compete for is golden sword and SUV car.
In the concluding ceremony, Sayyid Theyazin handed over the awards to the top winners.
In the first round for ‘Thanaya’ category (enterprises) for 8 km, ‘Alreaf’ won the first place and ‘Al Asma’ won the third place, both owned by Al Bashayer Stables under coach Jasim bin Qubaili al Maharbi. ‘Alreaf’ finished in 13m:27sec. In the second place was ‘Elaj’ for Al Bashayer Stables, trained by Mohammed bin Humaid al Wahibi.
In the second round for ‘Thanaya’ category (general) ‘Najoom’ owned by Sami bin Mohammed al Wahibi claimed the SUV car and the icon in 13:38. The second place was won by ‘Mahaba’ for Ali bin Rashid al Amri. ‘Tomoh’ owned for Saeed bin Hamed al Jenaibi finished third.
The third round which was for ‘Alhool’ category for general, ‘Nakoah’ snatched the silver sword in 13 minutes and 25 seconds, owned by Hamed bin Mohammed al Wahibi. The same camel had won the silver sword in Al Bashayer festival recently. ‘Tayara’ for Sultan bin Humood al Ghafi was second and ‘Mayasa’ for Hamed bin Muhammed al Wahibi claimed third.
The last round was for ‘Alhool’ category (enterprises), where ‘Makhail’ was the champion for RCC under coach Subyeh bin Mohammed al Wahibi after covering 8km in 13:31. ‘Mayasa’ was second for RCC trained by Saif bin Abdullah al Habsi. In the third place was ‘Aldhabi’ for Al Bashayer Stables trained by Obed bin Mohammed al Wahibi.
Sami bin Mohammed bin Ali al Wahibi, owner of ‘Najoom’ which won the first round, told the Observer: “It’s a great achievement to receive the prize from HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said.
The competition was very strong and we faced the challenge with the race time in the evening as the camel’s performance was below than the morning.
