Efforts on to restore normalcy in wilayats affected by heavy rains

Work is underway to quickly restore electricity, water and telephone networks.

Muscat: The authorities concerned are working round-the-clock to restore the basic services that were affected due to heavy rains and overflow of wadis in the wilayats of Al-Awabi and Al-Rustaq in South Al Batinah Governorate, the wilayats of Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank in the Al Dhahirah governorate and the wilayats of Nizwa, Al Hamra and Bahla in the Al Dakhiliyah governorate.

Efforts by the Royal Oman Police are continuing to deal with the effects of torrential rains that have damaged roads, houses near the river beds of wadis, and a number of vehicles that were also washed away. People who risked crossing the flooded wadis were detained.

Traffic movement in the wilayats has been affected, and work is underway to restore electricity, water and telephone networks, affected by heavy rains.

Dr. Ali Amir Al Shidhani, Communications and Information Technology Undersecretary, confirmed to Oman News Agency that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with the relevant authorities is currently working on repair of roads affected by heavy rains and flooded wadis in the wilayats of Al Awabi and Rustaq.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency, Eng. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Mujaini, Director of the Projects Department at the Ministry, indicated that there was damage to some roads in the wilayats of Al-Awabi and Rustaq, and the temporarily closed roads are currently being opened.

The Wali of Al Awabi, Shaikh Said Mohammed Al Harsoosi, said some damages were caused in the villages in the vicinity of Wadi Bani Kharus and Wadi Bani Khazir, but no human casualty was recorded.

He said the properties of citizens were damaged as a result of water entering their homes and farms, and the waters of the valleys washed away a number of cars and affected electricity, water and telephone services. But the authorities concerned started work early in the morning and restored the basic services. Work is still on at an accelerated pace.
