Nama Group joins ‘Eidaad’ programme to promote In-Country Value in Oman

MUSCAT: Based on the Group Sustainability Policy, Nama Group signed a cooperation memorandum with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) to participate in the Internship Programme ‘Eidaad’. Nama Group intends to achieve integration with development institutions in the Sultanate to strengthen the national cadres’ potentials and involve them in the sustainable development to meet Oman Vision 2040 objectives.

The CEO of Nama Group, Eng Omar al Wahaibi, signed the memorandum on behalf of the Group with Dr Rahma al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, during the inauguration of a training programme for industrial and academic sectors.

The initiative aims to achieve the goals of the second edition of the national programme, which seeks to align higher education programmes with the requirement of the labour market, provide students with key skillsets and improve their workplace exposure for one full academic year.

The programme also aims to provide the students with new and appropriate knowledge and skills to support them in bridging the gap between their capabilities and business sectors requirements. Nama Group will provide 46 on-the-job training opportunities within a ten-month training plan to improve the trainees’ talents and preparing them for the labour market.

Eng Omar al Wahaibi, CEO of Nama Group, said: “We are firmly on track in implementing the Group’s Sustainability Policy and giving priority to the In-Country Value. Our participation in this program is an extension of several projects and programs, aiming at empowering the Omani youth in the electricity sector, through the following: Achieving Omanisation in the Group companies and their contractors; Presenting training programmes to students and graduates and preparing them for the labour market; and Supporting the youth in establishing and managing SMEs.”

Nama Group has achieved an Omanisation of 95 per cent in the electricity sector while all executive leadership positions have been Omanised. The “Ruwad” programme, a dedicated training for emerging leaders, contributed significantly to supporting the middle and senior leadership.

Also, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and the Authority for Public Services Regulation, the Group is supporting the Omanisation of 800 positions in 2021. Under the ‘Naqla’ programme, the Group aims to support electrical engineering graduates to obtain electrical licenses to work in the electricity sector. So far, around 250 graduates out of 625 have been trained in a 5-year plan. The license supports the job seekers to obtain positions in several sectors, such as the oil Sector, in addition to the electricity sector. It also helps them to establish their own SME businesses.

In the environment area, Nama Group trained 600 university and college students from the architecture engineering field, school students, and job seekers in the National Electricity Conservation Campaign, entitled: “Tadoom”. Participants were trained on modern design programs related to eco-friendly homes. In addition, 95 male and female students from 24 universities and colleges in the Sultanate were trained in the Green Innovation Eco-Thon initiative. The program’s objectives also included spreading awareness of preserving the environment and promoting a culture of sustainability. The Green Innovation Eco-Thon initiative focused on various subjects like Waste Management and the use of Renewable Energy.”
