A key conference showcasing investment opportunities in Oman’s transforming capital market sector opened at Shangri La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa on Monday.
Held under the auspices of Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX), the newly rebranded securities market currently owned by Oman Investment Authority (OIA), the MSX Roadshow is a platform for MSX listed companies to attract local and foreign investment via the exchange.
Haitham bin Salem al Salmi, CEO of the Muscat Stock Exchange, explained that the conference came after the completion of defining the strategic plan for the stock exchange, which is a commercial entity, whose sustainability is based on its profits and operations.
He pointed out that the growth in profits was good during the past years, but the growth in prices did not take its real growth, indicating that raising liquidity in the market depends on several factors, including the presence of alternative investment opportunities, explaining that the focus is currently on finding alternative investment opportunities through companies with large capital is included in the market.
The two-day conference is being attended by more than 300 participants representing bodies, financial organizations, banks, investment companies, managers from different countries of the world, representatives from the Omani capital market sector, investors from investment institutions and financial brokerage companies. It features a number of working papers on the features of MSX’s strategy for growth and development in the coming years, investment in the capital market sector, and available opportunities.
The highlight of the roadshow is the exit plan of Oman Investment Authority (OIA) envisioning the latter’s divestment from four key state-owned entities: Majis Industrial Services (MIS), Abraj Energy Services, OQ Group’s gas pipeline network, and a real estate trust fund.
