Work on Khasab zipline project in full swing

Work is underway on the zipline project at Khasab in Musandam Governorate, with its launch expected later this year.

The project is one of the most significant adventure-related activities in the governorate.

One of the biggest of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, the zipline starts at a height of 220 metres atop Jabal Fitt in Musandam and spans a total distance of 1,800 metres. When operational, it will enable adventure-minded tourists to experience the beauty of Musandam’s rugged terrain and surrounding countryside.

Work on the project started in March with contractors ensuring that all components are built and installed in accordance with international safety standards and procedures, including an advanced braking system, helmets to protect riders, safety harnesses and jackets.

Additionally, an access road is also being constructed to the summit of Jabal Fitt to enable tourists to access the launch site. Work on the roughly 1,500-metre road began in August last year.

The zipline is a key part of the Adventure Centre project, work on which began earlier this year in Musandam Governorate. It is is expected to revitalize the tourism economy of the governorate, making it a vibrant area of tourism development.

Besides attracting large tourist groups and adventure lovers, the zipline project is also expected to spur investment in leisure, recreational and other economic activities in the area. This is in line with the government’s overall goal of positioning Khasab and the wider governorate as a hub for tourism.

The project is being implemented by Omran Group – the executive arm of the Sultanate of Oman for tourism development – with the support of Musandam Governor’s Office and Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
