Muscat: Dr. Hafedh  bin Saeed Al-Rahbi, Dean of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences Nizwa branch received a delegation from the World Health Organization recently.

The delegation visited the Sultanate in conjunction with the project to assess Nizwa Health City’s bid for recognition within the system of healthy cities globally.

The Nizwa Healthy Lifestyle Project is one of the health projects launched by the Wilayat of Nizwa to instill the concept of healthy living and environmental health to the community.

It adopts the vision of the Nizwa City Health office’s project to implement health programmes anchored on community participation with government and private sectors, and aims at achieving substantial success in promoting health and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among the members of the community.

This project targets reduction of health, environmental and social risks while achieving sustainable development in the state by spreading culture, health, and social environment awareness, identifying health challenges related to lifestyles for all ages, improving the physical, social and economic environment affecting health, contributing to research and studies related to promoting community health, and attracting and empowering volunteers to achieve the health city’s goals.

The presentation was delivered by the key administrators of the University, headed by Dr. Hafedh  bin Saeed Al-Rahbi himself.

The delegation was given a brief explanation about the University’s academic system, academic disciplines, academic levels, and student enrolment levels. In addition to these, a briefing about the technology and technical equipment being used by the academic departments was also presented.

Dr. Hafedh bin Ahmed Ambusaidi, Assistant dean for Student Affairs-UTAS-Nizwa, was also in the meeting and presented about the role of the University in the holistic development of its students, including but not limited to their intellectual, cultural, psychological, social, and health development, and how these programs relate to the principles and values of the Nizwa Healthy Lifestyle Project.

The University’s role in designing the on-the-job training programme, as well as the activities of the entrepreneurship and innovation department was also highlighted in the meeting.

Suleiman bin Ali Al-Harthy, Chairman of the Industrial Relations and Community Service Committee (ICLC), presented an overview of the University’s activities in serving the local communities in the governorate.

Suleiman gave a detailed orientation about the number of training programmes and workshops, which cover various sectors, especially civil, voluntary, sports teams, and other public and private institutions.

Suleiman’s presentation also included a discussion about the School Students Enrichment Program which currently is on its third edition for the academic year 2021-2022.

The head of the University’s volunteer team, Abham, talked to the delegation about the activities of the University’s internal and external team, which targets university students and its external stakeholders.

At the end of the presentation, the delegation visited the University’s facilities to get them acquainted with the University’s academic departments i.e. Information Technology, Business Studies, Engineering and the English Language Center. They also visited the laboratories and workshops of the engineering department and the English Language Centre.
