MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman’s population has increased by 1.04 per cent to 4,527,446 at the end of 2021 compared to 4,481,042 in 2020, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The NCSI statistics showed that the Omani population made up 61.94 per cent of the total population at 2,804,117 while the expat population accounted for 38.06 per cent at 2,723,329.
The Muscat Governorate accounted for the largest number of the population (29 per cent) with a total of 1,311,686 including 758,309 expatriates representing 57.8 per cent of its total population.
The number of Omanis in North Al Batinah Governorate reached 563,662 representing 20.1 per cent of the total Omani population, followed by Muscat Governorate with per cent 553,377 representing 19.7 of the Omani population, Al Dakhiliyah Goverorate 375,288 (13.38 per cent), while South Al Batinah came in the fourth place with 361,473.
Dhofar Governorate has a total population of 420,325 of whom 220,457 are Omanis representing 52.4 per cent while expatriates made up 47.6 per cent (199,867).
Al Buraimi Governorate recorded a population decrease by 1.37 per cent due to a drop in the number of expatriates who accounted for 46,421 or 38.56 per cent while Omanis represented 73,951 (61.44 per cent) of the total population of the governorate which is 120,372.
The total population of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate increased in December of last year by 1.94 per cent compared to November of the same year to reach 488,659 of whom 475,288 are Omanis and 113,371 are expatriates.
The population of South Al Batinah Governorate increased by 2 per cent to 475,763 of whom 361,473 are Omanis and 114,290 are expatriates.
South Al Sharqiyah Governorate has a total population of 322,306 of whom 231,772 are Omanis and 90,534 are expatriates. Musandam Governorate recorded the least number of population with 49,830 of whom 34,867 are Omanis and 14,963 are expatriates. North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has a total population of 274,325 including 197,347 Omanis and 76,978 expatriates.
Al Dhahirah Governorate has a total population of 216,381 of whom 166,372 are Omanis and 50,009 are expatriates.
Al Wusta Governorate has a total population of 52,967 including 25,551 Omanis and 27,416 expatriates. — ONA
