Muscat: More than 12,000 births were registered during the months of January and February of this year, according to the National Center for Statistics and Information.
The number of births recorded in January was 6,499, and 5,626 in February, bringing the total to 12,125, including 11,254 Omanis (93%), and 871 residents of the Sultanate. There were nine births every hour during this period.
Of these, 6093 babies born were males, compared to 6032 females.
Over 2,000 deaths were also reported January-February, including 1677 citizens, and 240 residents.
