Muscat: Calls are being made to reduce the menace of stray animals in Oman. One of the most effective way to control this problem is to adopt TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return at the location where it was trapped). This method involves neutering or spaying of the animals by veterinary professionals in a safe environment.
Cats become mature at an early age, at around 4 months to be precise, and are, therefore, capable of breeding.
By spaying or neutering just one male and female cat, more than 2,000 unwanted births can be prevented in just 4 years.
It is on the strength of this logic that Tiger By The Tail Oman (TBTT Oman) has been working since over 6 years and is active in 3 major locations in Oman, namely, Muscat, Sohar and Sur.
TBTT was founded by Jaison Mathai in 2016 and since then along with the core members, including Dr Peter Nolosco, Dr Anamika Pandey, Arul Natarajan, Nivya Crasto and Kaveri Dewan in association with Capital Veterinary Centre LLC, Quram, they have achieved the herculean task of performing 1,800 TNRs on homeless cats in Oman and providing home to 138 Omani cats across the world.
Since the last three years, the organisation is focused on TNR and emergency rescue of injured and unwell cats.
Recently, TBTT conducted the first-ever mass TNR in Sur with the help of Hay Al Sharooq International School teachers and TBTT members wherein a total of 19 cats were sterilised in a single day.
Earlier too, TBTT conducted Mass TNRs in Sohar and sterilised 20 homeless cats in single day and adopted a few others as well.
TBTT Oman is active on Social Media platforms as well which is handled by Jaison Mathai and Dr Anamika Pandey to create awareness across the world. Active members of TBTT group get special discounts on TNRs for homeless Omani cats and emergency rescue operations.
The main objective of the TBTT Oman is controlling the population of stray cats across Oman in a humane way, create awareness and involve people in animal welfare activities.
